Flying Romance Around the Globe (13/02/2002)
British Airways World Cargo is ensuring that lovers around the world are ready for Valentine's Day by transporting all those essential romantic items to their doors.
In the week before 14th February, more than 5.9 million flowers will be
delivered by British Airways World Cargo. These include four million roses
from Ecuador, Columbia, Mexico and Israel and 250,000 orchids from
Thailand. Most of the flowers are destined for Europe and the USA.
Two tonnes of chocolate are being sent from Switzerland to the USA and,
for those who have an especially successful Valentine's Day, 106 tonnes of
condoms are being delivered from Malaysia and India to Europe and Brazil.
Gerry Mundy, Global Perishables Manager, British Airways World Cargo said:
"Valentine's Day is one of those occasions when timing really counts for
everything, after all its just not the same if you receive flowers on the
15th February. Through the care and attention of our staff, and
facilities such as the Perishables Handling Centre at Heathrow, we are
able to provide timely supply-chain solutions for retailers and ultimately
provide consumers with the choice and quality that they demand."
