British Airways World Cargo lntroduces On-body Barcoding for Air Waybills (13/05/2002)
British Airways World Cargo has today announced that it is introducing a new on-body bar code system for air waybill numbers. This new ID will be in addition to the normal numerics and will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of each copy of the air waybill. (This does not apply to forwarder produced neutral air waybills)
The bar code complies with industry standards and has been scan tested for acceptance by the BA system. The new air waybill will reduce the procedure of manual input and increase the airlines tracking capabilities.
Roy Hurley, Manager Industry Affairs & Business Continuity at British Airways World Cargo said: "The new air waybill will greatly improve the process and speed at which freight is currently processed at our cargo reception. In addition, it will help to ensure a better standard of tracking throughout the entire logistics chain."
The new air waybills will be phased in with immediate effect as old style air waybills are used up and replaced.
