Top Logistic Award goes to British Airways World Cargo (01/07/2004)

The Global Institute of Logistics has named British Airways World Cargo European Scheduled Air Cargo Provider for 2004 - 5. The Global Institute of Logistics which is one of the world's leading organistaions representing the logistics industry, made the award following a detailed research process into the leading providers of air cargo solutions in Europe.

The research department of the Institute carried out a comprehensive study into the industry and surveyed many of the key parties in the European and global freight-forwarding sector. Kieran Ring, CEO of the Global Institute of Logistics, commented on the process behind the selection: "Our research indicates that BAWC is constantly striving to refine their product offering against two key principles, simplicity and transparency. This award marks the culmination of a long, hard-working campaign by BAWC to develop its business."

The Institute cited BAWC's infrastructure as one of the key factors behind the award. Mr Ring continued: "By establishing one of the world's most advanced freight processing facilities at Heathrow, BAWC has reinforced its position at the forefront of the industry. A dedicated special handling facility and perishables handling centre highlight the breadth of BAWC's capabilities. Meeting the needs of the customer is at the heart of the business".

Gareth Kirkwood, Managing Director BAWC, welcomed the announcement: "This is great news for the airline. It underlines the effort and determination of the team here at BAWC to maintain and improve performance. We welcome the work of the Global Institute of Logistics to provide a platform for discussion within the industry and we must continue to debate the future of the air cargo business with stakeholders, as partnership remains essential to the industry's future success. Our recent wins at the Air Cargo News awards underlined our positive relationship with customers and reflected the strength of our global network.

"It was particularly satisfying that the Institute recognised the work that we are doing to modernise the industry. Our investment in e-business technology will enhance our customer offering and we continue to support Cargo 2000 and GF-X. It's vital that we build for the future and, through organisations like the Institute, we're committed to working across the industry to improve best practice throughout the logistics community."
